Pregnancy Update

I haven't written too much about my pregnancy this time around for a couple of reasons.  I haven't been feeling well at all lately, and I don't think it would make for a very interesting blog if I got on here and whined about it every day.  Without going into details of my various sufferings (some of them are quite embarrassing and personal), I will say that it's been a rough pregnancy so far.  It's almost like the endless first trimester.  I'm still getting sick several times a week, and I'm constantly exhausted.

I think my ongoing discomforts may be due to the fact that I'm still breastfeeding Isabelle, and therefore my hormones are making the rest of my body really confused.  I should add that it's totally safe to breastfeed all throughout pregnancy.  I'm reading a book right now called Adventures in Tandem Nursing: Breastfeeding During Pregnancy and Beyond, recommended by La Leche League, and it has a lot of facts as well as personal experiences from other mothers who tandem nursed.

You may be thinking I'm crazy for continuing to breastfeed Isabelle when formula is so readily available.  Have I considered weaning?  Of course I have.  But the truth is that my daughter needs to nurse right now.  Not only for the countless benefits of breastfeeding, but for emotional comfort as well (those of you who have breastfed know what I'm talking about).  And as a mother, it's my job to take care of my babies' needs as best as I am able.

I can take comfort in knowing that my sacrificing is going to a good cause.  Well, two good causes: Isabelle and the (still unnamed) Baby Bean.  I'm so blessed to have a beautiful, happy, healthy 9-month-old, as well as a healthy pregnancy and hopeful future for my second daughter.

  1. From one pregnant-and-nursing and soon-to-be tandem nursing mom to another... YOU GO, GIRL! It is difficult, it isn't comfortable, and it just plain hurts sometimes, but your sacrifices will mean so much to Isabelle, and if you tandem nurse, it'll make the transition to big sisterhood easier for her because she won't have lost you in that special way, you know?

It's nice to know another pregnant-and-nursing mom in South Louisiana. :)
