Well I've been cloth-diapering Lacey for about a month now, and so many people have been asking me how it's going - and it's going okay - there are definitely ups and downs.
I am having a few leak issues. Wetness has been seeping through the leg area. I found out from the Fuzzibunz Facebook page that sometimes the diapers will leak if they're too tight due to compression. So for the past few days I've been using the second-tightest leg snaps and I've been leaving her onesies unsnapped - and I haven't had any leaks so far! (I have to add though that Lacey's been having leaks when I have her in disposable diapers too - the kind with gravity-defying poop that rides up her back...not fun, especially because whenever I have her in disposables, we're out in public!)
In other cloth-diapering news, I'm happy to report that I've found a cloth-wipe strategy that works for me! Before, I had used my Hosie Naturals wipe solution concentrate to make a spray by mixing it with witch hazel. I would spray the solution on Lacey, and wipe with a dry cloth - and this did not work. I had a really hard time getting her clean without having to scrub her bottom, and disposable wipes worked so much better. So my next strategy was soaking the wipes. I put my wipes into a disposable wipes container, mixed the concentrate with some distilled water, and poured it over the wipes. And it's working out great - I'm very happy with them! My friend Sara told me she did the same thing and put them in a wipe-warmer, which I'd like to do eventually. I ordered a pack of 10 Fuzzibunz Wonder Wipes for about $20 - they're expensive, but very good for soiled diaper messes, since they're double-sided with fleece and organic cotton. For wet diapers, I use simple fleece wipes. I purchased 5 of these for $1 each, but I also bought several yards of fleece to make my own!
So, all in all, it's going okay. It's frustrating sometimes trying to figure all this out, but I'm so lucky to have many friends who cloth-diaper and can offer their experience and suggestions. Who knows - maybe I'll be able to help some other cloth-diapering newbies someday! :o)
