Day One, 10:20 am - Missed Regis and Kelly this morning. Emma Watson was supposed to be on. Heard the theme music start playing at 9 am, even though the tv was off. Going crazy? Don't feel like watching a movie. Hearing voices in my head. This is not going well.
Nah, I'm just kidding.
But we did cancel the cable. *sigh.* They came and turned it off yesterday, but I was out and about running errands, so I didn't miss it all that much. Today is different though, as I'm home all day with very little chores to do since my wonderful mother-in-law came yesterday and helped me out with my housework.
We decided to cancel the cable last week when Blake and I sat down with our new budget. It's not that we can't afford cable. But we think it's much better for our family's well-being to limit spending and put as much as we can into our savings right now. And I think it'll be better for our family in other ways too. Without cable as a distraction, I hope to spend more quality time together when Blake gets off work. And I'm sure it'll help us to go to bed at a more reasonable time, since we won't be having our nightly disagreement of when the tv needs to go off or how loud the volume needs to be.
The only thing I'm not looking forward to is the hours upon hours that I'll be sitting down and nursing Lacey with little to do. I know I'll find something to do, but it's just a little too convenient to turn on HGTV and spend the day on the couch.
I'm not too disappointed about cancelling the cable. We are going to get Netflix, and most of the primetime shows I like to watch are available online. In fact, I usually prefer to watch them online anyway when Isabelle's down for her nap and I know I'll have a few hours of uninterrupted down-time.
Well I'm going to keep myself busy for a little while doing a load of laundry and setting up my new baskets for my changing station. I think life without cable might be a good thing...
